After an award-winning debut last year, Food’s Future Summit 2018 returns with gusto. Now spanning two days, the event at Hotel Icon by Foodie has gathered together Hong Kong leaders and international experts in food and beverage, sustainability, and technology for in-depth panel discussions and interactive workshops to consider: what is the future of food?
While we’re excited for the whole event on September 21st and 22nd, there’s a couple of talks and workshops we’ve got marked in our calendars: these are the five things you shouldn’t miss at Food’s Future Summit 2018.
Keynote speaker Josh Tetrick
The co-founder and CEO of JUST is set to be Food Future’s opening keynote speaker, kicking things off on Friday 21st September. He’s been listed in Inc.’s “35 Under 35” and Fortune’s “40 Under 40” for his entrepreneurial success, which has seen JUST’s vegan egg-alternative and cruelty-free product distributed to 100,000 different retailers. Make sure you’re there for his speech on the new food revolution, and how science and technology are disrupting food as we know it.
Hong Kong’s top chefs on the future of dining
The “Dining in 2030” panel will host top Hong Kong chefs May Chow, Uwe Opocensky and Jowett Yu along with Restauranteer Michelle Garnaut and Foodie Editor-in-Chief Alicia Walker to discuss the evolution of dining—and how restaurants will have to change to remain competitive in the future. If you’re looking to be in the know about the best up-and-coming eateries, this panel will give you a few pointers on what to look out for.
Learn how Sweden is shaping food’s future
The home of IKEA and the Swedish meatball is in the spotlight this month for an entirely different reason: as the featured country for this year’s Food Future’s Summit, a dedicated panel on September 21st will discuss, “How Sweden Designs Our Food’s Future” with input from the Director General of INL Prof. Lars Montelius, Swedish author Annika Grälls, Founder of Sweden Foodtech Johan Jörgensen and Tommy Leung, the Founder and Managing Director, GAFELL.
Delve into alternative proteins
It’s been the biggest wellness-foodie trend of the year, and we’ve seen Impossible, Beyond and Omnipork popping up all over the city—but are alternative meats as game-changing as they seem? They’re such a huge topic that there are actually two separate panels on it: head along to the “Are Alternative Proteins Still Alternative?” discussion on September 21st, featuring Bobsy Gaia of MANA! and Jenny Ng of Green Monday/Green Common, and check out the “Future of Proteins” panel on September 22nd, led by Green Queen Founder and editor-in-chief Sonalie Figueiras for a more intimate discussion on the topic on everyone’s lips.
The Foodie Marketplace
One of the best things about a food summit is, of course, the food. The Foodie Marketplace will feature tasty treats, as well as items to buy and take home, with appearances from Urban Grow, a Hong Kong urban farm, and Biorna Quantics, who aside from creating nutritious meals help people test their biomarkers and understand their own unique nutritional and metabolic needs.
The Food’s Future Summit takes place September 21st-22nd 2018, at Hotel Icon.
