Renowned luxury fitness pioneers Equinox have unveiled the world’s first fitness hotel in New York. With over 35 locations already in New York City and 100 around the USA, the cult wellness brand expands its portfolio with its latest hospitality venture, creating the new Equinox Destination Membership to appeal to wellness travellers as well as its loyal following of existing gym members.
Large luxury chains around the globe are jumping onboard the wellness bandwagon—an industry estimated to be worth US$4.2 trillion—by incorporating and improving wellness programming into the hotel. A stunning spa won’t quite cut it anymore for the new breed of ambitious wellness travellers, so few properties have managed to truly bridge the gap between providing for health-conscious holidaymakers without alienating regular travellers, and vice versa.
The new Equinox hotel doesn’t have this problem. In the trendy Manhattan neighbourhood of Hudson Yards, the 212-room hotel fulfils a niche in urban escapes as a hotel entirely dedicated to wellness that doesn’t ask travellers to compromise on their health when they’re away from home.

The 27,000-square-foot spa goes above and beyond the standard spa experience with a range of saltwater, hot and cold plunge pools, regenerative cryotherapy chambers and infra-red saunas, and a fusion of holistic and medical therapies from world-class experts. The outdoor rooftop pool lends the chic city hotel and a more resort-like atmosphere, while the fitness club gives guests access to all the signature Equinox classes from HIIT to Barre to SoulCycle, with personal training options for those who want to use their holiday time to push themselves to the next level.
The rooms are described as ‘a temple of regeneration’, with comprehensive sleep programmes: a hybrid of ultra-luxe comfort, like the hand-crafted mattresses on king-size beds, and the latest in wellness technology, like soundproofing, black-out blinds and temperature-regulating sheets, ensure it’ll be the most restful sleep of your life. Each room offers guests an “EQX Regenerative Toolkit,” to provide options for morning and evening wellness rituals like yoga and in-room massages.
The devil’s in the detail here, with every aspect of a person’s daily routine hyper-personalised and wellness-orientated: three showerheads in each ensuite along with aromatherapy showers designed in collaboration with bio-beauty leaders Grown Alchemist.
The in-room minibar is customisable—if you want to skip the temptation of sweet treats and midnight snacks, just let them know—while the hotel restaurant, Electric Lemon from restauranteur Stephen Starr, offers seasonal menus that both indulge the tastebuds and provide nutritional balance. High in protein, dishes include egg-heavy breakfasts, energy bowls, cold-pressed juices, clean meats and fresh salads. The bar, which features rotating mirrored shelving to hide alcoholic beverages during the day, offers superfood smoothies and adaptogenic drinks throughout the day, before becoming a lively social space in the evening with top-quality mixology and international wines.
