Location & Setting

The Alpina Gstaad is nestled in Gstaad, a historic resort town in the Bernese Oberland region of the Swiss Alps. The enchanting location was once a favoured spot for stars like Brigitte Bardot and Elizabeth Taylor. As a year-round destination, guests can enjoy skiing in the winter and hiking trails in the summer thus giving a choice of the best of both worlds.

Accommodation

There are 56 luxurious rooms and suites to choose from at The Alpina Gstaad, and each accommodation showcases Alpine authenticity mixed with Swiss heritage. From its timber-clad walls to the leather headboards and farmhouse-style cupboards and chests, guests feel an immediate sense of cosiness upon entering the sleek rooms. Moreover, the property was built upon sustainable-driven practices including its wood which is made from reclaimed barns, sourced and installed by renowned chalet architect Chaletbau Matti. The stones also come from nearby, and its zero-waste philosophy is implemented wherever possible across the hotel.

For those unsure where to start, fret not as the staff is more than happy to recommend or personalise a treatment through a consultation or a non-invasive wellness screening. The KuNye massage with Horme is an excellent choice with head therapist Antonis Sarris. This bespoke therapy uses tiny poultices with powder from cumin seeds and nutmeg warmed in sesame oil. The ancient remedy aims to reduce stress and help guests recover from tiredness or colds.

Another unique offering at The Alpina Gstaad‘s Six Senses Spa is the Tibetan healing personal consultation which includes a visual assessment, pulse reading and questionnaire. Based on the results, the qualified Tibetan Medicine Amchi-Naturopath will suggest treatments and lifestyle adjustments for better wellbeing.

But it’s not just the adults who are having fun at this resort. The Alpina Gstaad is family-friendly too and has the Tree House Club for kids. Although there is a team of trained professionals on-site, it’s important to note that children under the age of four must be accompanied by an adult.

Nutrition

There are four restaurants at the property, all under the guidance of Michelin-starred Executive Chef Martin Göschel. For classic French dishes, head to Sommet by Martin Göschel which boasts one Michelin star. The restaurant sources ingredients like eggs, vegetables, meat and cheese from local producers. The Alpina Gstaad also owns nine on-site beehives onsite to produce its Alpina Honey.

We Loved

There isn’t anything not to love about this gorgeous Swiss gem. But if we had to narrow it down, then the Six Senses Spa was truly a standout feature. A stunning oasis to cater to your wellbeing needs in the serene environment of the Alps, this spa is the perfect treat to a post-workout or day out skiing or hiking. Not only is it sustainable (as with all Six Senses concepts), but it also includes a range of local Swiss and German brands and products. If you are staying a few days, be sure to try one of the dedicated wellness programmes which range from anti-ageing to yogic detox.
