Tao Garden is a full-service health resort and natural healing clinic offering detoxifying, balancing and rejuvenating wellness programmes, along with clinical and alternative medicine treatments in a tropical setting in Thailand’s northern dense jungle region.

Location

Located north of Chiang Mai in the foothills of the Southeastern Himalayan mountains, Tao Garden is about 30 minutes from Chiang Mai airport. Situated approximately 700 kilometres from Bangkok and surrounded by lush Thai vegetation, the resort sits in a broad valley at an elevation of 330 meters above sea level.

Accommodation

Comprised of brick dwellings which overlook a canal, Tao Garden has two main accommodation options: condominium style rooms or townhouse style rooms. The condominium rooms are divided into three categories – ‘Natural Simple Rooms’, ‘Natural Standard Rooms’ or ‘Natural Superior Rooms’. The townhouse rooms consist of three bedrooms with a shared kitchen and living room and ‘Natural Standard Rooms’, ‘Natural Superior Rooms’ or ‘Natural Deluxe Rooms’.

All rooms have balconies, bathtubs and are set around a landscaped inner courtyard. Décor is basic and a tad dated, but the rooms are comfortable enough, albeit a little cosy.

Food Programme

Prepared from fresh natural ingredients in accordance with Chinese and Taoist medicine traditions, Tao Garden serves up tasteful dishes for health-conscious travellers. A significant proportion of the vegetables and fruits in the meals come from the resort’s own organic gardens and the retreat also offers a variety of healthy Thai specialities. Designed for detoxification, the menu is crafted around low-toxicity, and there are lots of cleansing juices and purifying teas (no coffee!) to wash down the chef’s appetising creations.

The kitchen only uses fresh virgin oils, and pink Himalayan salt takes the place of sea salt. Dairy alternatives such as fresh black sesame milk and rice milk are available, along with soy and goat yoghurt. A range of sugar and gluten free bread are also baked fresh daily.

Treatment Programme

Proffering holistic treatments in its natural healing clinic and integrated health centre and spa, Tao Garden offers a diverse array of health programmes which span from Traditional Chinese Medicine to slimming procedures.

Every programme begins with a thorough health diagnostics evaluation (including live blood analysis) which is executed by one of the retreat’s resident doctors. After personal needs are assessed, a customised schedule is created and guests can embark on one of 6 package options: ‘Detox’, ‘Fasting’, ‘Weight Loss’, ‘Stress Relief’, ‘Chronic Pain Management’, and ‘One-day Tao Retreats’.

Standout cleansing spa treatments include Chi Nei Tsang Abdominal Detox Therapy, Colon Hydrotherapy, Liver and Gallbladder Flushes, Lymphatic Massage, Alkaline Baths, Ozone Steams, Aromatherapy Mineral Soaks and Ayurvedic Purification Rituals. Most programmes run between five and 10 days, although the one-day retreat package allows visiting guests to experience a range of purifying treatments over a 24-hour period.
