The past decade has been a wonderful period for luxury hospitality, with many brands increasing their offerings beyond simply quality service and exquisite accommodation. Social impact, wellness programmes and unique locations have all been key aspects of the luxury hotel and resort scene recently, and in the world of wellness, there have been many game-changing openings in the past ten years—with many more to come into 2020, too. Luxury Travel Intelligence (LTI) has taken on the monumental task of deciding on the top ten openings in the luxury sector for the last decade, and there are some stellar properties on the list.
To create this list, LTI utilised the research of 12 global experts to narrow down its top ten, commenting in the report that, “This has been an extraordinary ten years for the global luxury hotel sector, with constant development and huge ‘money is no object’ investment taking place, bringing the luxury traveller a vast choice of superb new properties.”
“The team at LTI is totally submerged in every aspect of luxury travel every day, yet even we are continually surprised and occasionally speechless at the level of excellence we find at particular properties… having visited all of these exceptional properties, some several times, we are confident that of all the great new hotels and resorts we have seen over the past ten years, this is, without doubt, the perfect ten.”Michael Crompton, the Founder of LTI
With three Maldivian properties on the list, the island nation reigns supreme in innovative luxury offerings, while the high number of private island properties showcase an increased demand for exclusivity and privacy when seeking out luxury accommodation. The list included Compare Retreats partner brands Aman and Six Senses, as well as boutique properties like Song Saa Private Island.
