COMO Hotels & Resorts has unveiled its newest property and first resort in continental Europe. Situated in a 12th-century castle on a 740-acre historic estate, COMO Castello Del Nero in Tuscany is surrounded by Italy’s famous Chianti wine region and beautiful rolling landscapes.
The property features 50 rooms and suites in the estate’s main castle building, tastefully renovated and restored by Milanese designer Paola Navone with the traditional terracotta flooring and fresco walls preserved in their original state.
Combining COMO’s signature sleek and contemporary aesthetic with the property’s historic features, COMO Castello Del Nero retains a sense of heritage throughout without sacrificing any of the comforts expected at a five-star luxury hotel.
COMO Group Founder Christina Ong stayed at Castello Del Nero back in 2007 on a private holiday and fell in love with the place and COMO purchased the entire castle estate last year. “I have a deep affection for the Italian aesthetic. I admire how they can layer up history with modernity and come up with the most exquisite result,” says Ms Ong: “Italians may be the masters of Baroque, but they also understand the way simplicity resonates in its own unique and powerful way, from design to food.”
COMO Castello Del Nero will feature COMO’s signature wellness brand, COMO Shambhala, in the property’s spa and massage programme, along with complimentary morning yoga, tennis courts, and a heated outdoor swimming pool. Wellness travellers seeking a focussed getaway can look forward to COMO Shambhala retreats and workshops with visiting wellness experts being added to the property later this year and into 2020.
The property additionally boasts three on-site restaurants: the Michelin-starred La Torre, La Taverna, and The Pavilion, which is open for the summer only. The Mediterranean-inspired cuisine is complemented by COMO’s own signature dishes, and all of the menus are overseen by Executive Chef, Giovanni Luca Di Pirro.
Within 30-minutes drive of Florence and Sienna, COMO Castello Del Nero is perfectly situated for guests to explore the historic region while avoiding the bustle of these popular tourist destinations.
“COMO Castello Del Nero is the holistic next step of growing our portfolio of hotels and resorts in select destinations around the world,” says Olivier Jolivet, CEO of the COMO Group. “We don’t intend to be the biggest lifestyle brand, but our objective is to be one of the best, with offerings in the most desirable locations. COMO Castello Del Nero has the right features for us to deliver a personalised COMO experience, the Castello’s history and the new design by Paola Navone blending perfectly with the rest of our portfolio.”
