Founder of Compare Retreats Dervla Louli Musgrave checks in for mocktails, alpaca yoga and spa treatments at Ireland’s first health farm that offers approachable and affordable wellness retreats at the foothills of The Great Sugarloaf Mountain.
Space to Roam and Relaxed Rooms
Powerscourt Springs is located in Wicklow, a county known for being the garden of Ireland and as soon as you step on the grounds it’s clear to see why. 38 acres of stunning countryside surrounds the recently opened health farm and there are multiple woodland walks, lakeside strolls and fields with friendly alpacas to explore.
The building is in keeping with the natural environment with wood and natural stone featuring heavily throughout and the swimming pool, treatment rooms, sauna, wellness studio, cocktail lounge and restaurant are simple yet ample, offering everything a guest needs for a little rest and relaxation. Roaming in robes is heavily encouraged throughout the day as you wander between soundbaths, massages, meditation and leisurely lunches and there’s an option to lock devices away for a deeper digital detox. The aura of the property is incredibly relaxing and time is best enjoyed using the facilities and enjoying the stunning grounds as rooms are petite in nature.

I went for a night with my mum on the ‘Mother and Me Spa Break’ and it was the perfect way to catch up and spend quality time together. There are a variety of packages and spa breaks to choose from and most include spa treatments, activities (meditation, sound baths, yoga, curated picnics), welcome cocktails and meals.

Alpaca Yoga, Honey Bees, and Spa Treatments
Days go by at a leisurely pace at the health farm with group classes starting from around 10 am. Co-founder Adrienne Stewart’s brilliant idea of introducing three sweet alpacas to the retreat has been a huge hit and yoga with them is always the most popular activity on offer. Sound baths, life coaching, guided meditation, forest bathing and hiking around Powerscourt Waterfall, Glendalough Lakes and the Wicklow Mountains are all perfect ways to get the most out of a stay here.
Sustainability is an important part of Powerscourt Springs and there are honey hives, a vegetable patch, a herb garden and an orchard with apples and plums on site. As much produce from the land as possible is used in the restaurant including honey from the one million strong population of bees. The spa menu like the spa is small yet ideal for the setting and the therapists are brilliant. Our massages were very relaxing and we slept so soundly after them, which is always a great sign.
We Loved
Wellness retreats can often be intimidating and feel a little too self-indulgent, but thanks to affordable pricing and multiple retreat options, they feel attainable and relaxed at Powerscourt Springs.

Don’t Miss
The one unmissable activity on any wellness retreat here is yoga with three extremely curious, friendly, and adorable alpacas in the picturesque enclosed meadow. It was the highlight of our stay and we went to visit these beautiful gentle animals multiple times during our retreat.
