Location

Located five minutes from the heart of Ubud, Soulshine is conveniently positioned close to town, yet feels peacefully secluded. Around a 50-minute drive from Bali’s main airport, the retreat can only be accessed from Ubud by scooter or foot, adding to an atmosphere of seclusion and exclusivity.

Accommodation

Nestled along a bubbling river and surrounded by rice terraces, Soulshine’s accommodation blends into the surrounding tropical landscape. There are two buildings on the property: The Lotus Villa, which houses seven double-occupancy rooms and one single room; and the Terrace Villa, which has five premium double occupancy rooms.  All rooms have ensuites. The Yoga Studio and Spa Room, on the third floor of the Terrace Villa, have stunning views of the rice fields and jungle canopy, while the Soulshine Kitchen and dining terrace overlook the infinity edge swimming pool and diving platform. The aesthetic is an elegant mix of traditional Balinese and clean modern lines. The resort isn’t five-star standard, but what it lacks in luxury it makes up for in rustic charm.

Food Programme

Soulshine serves fresh, organic food in its charming open-air restaurant. Prepared by local Balinese chefs, the menu is a delicious blend of Balinese and Western cuisine and includes vegetarian, vegan, raw and non-vegetarian options, alongside an amazing array of colourful juices, smoothies, beer, wine and tropical cocktails. Plucked from the retreat’s own gardens, the food is tasty and nutritious, and geared towards health-conscious travellers: they even have vegan ice cream. Soulshine also offers cooking classes if you want to learn how to create delicious Balinese meals at home.

Treatment Programme

Catering to groups, or solo travellers, Soulshine has a packed calendar of year-round yoga, meditation, detox and personal development retreats. Led by expert international teachers, themes range from goddess gatherings for women to the annual ‘Soulrocker’ yoga retreat for music lovers, during which founder Michael Franti plays acoustic jams as part of the daily schedule. Whether you want to deepen your yoga practice, eat great food or just play in the sun, Soulshine will shift your perspective into a positive one. The retreat doesn’t have a dedicated spa, but does have treatment rooms and bodyworkers if you’re after a relaxing massage; or if you’re craving some aqua therapy, take a dip in the retreat’s infinity pool and soak up the surrounding jungle scenery.
