Derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Soukhyam’ which translates to “wellbeing and a harmonious state of mind, body and spirit”, Soukya is an integrative health centre in India that marries modern western medical treatments with ancient eastern practices and holistic therapies.

Location

Set within 30 lush acres on the outskirts of Bangalore, India, Soukya is a tranquil healing oasis. Located 20km east of Bangalore’s city centre, the retreat is approximately one hour’s drive from Bengaluru International Airport.

Accommodation

Designed in traditional Keralan style, Soukya has 21 deluxe rooms and four suites, all with ensuite bathrooms (replete with soaking tubs) and private gardens with lily ponds. Each abode is spacious and airy and displays simple architecture and clean lines, offset by local Khadi cotton textiles, Oriental carpets and traditional Indian touches.

Equipped with king-size beds, each room has a sizeable living area and private veranda. Ideal for groups, the resort’s Presidential Suite flaunts three bedrooms with either double, king-size or single bed, along with a huge living room and large tropical garden. Soukya encourages guests to disconnect from technology so there are no TV’s in the rooms.

Food Programme

Revolving around traditional Ayurvedic recipes, healthy vegetarian meals and classic Indian dishes, the cuisine at Soukya is typical of an Indian wellness resort. Fresh juices and herbal teas are served with each meal and homemade soup accompanies the main meal. The menu contains Indian favourites such as ‘dosas’ (savoury pancakes), ‘idlis’ (savoury cakes), along with vegetarian curries, stir-fried vegetables and delicious dhal.

All of the food is low fat, low salt and low spice. The kitchen is proud of its recipes and does a cooking demonstration each week, so guests can maintain healthy eating habits when they return home. It’s worth noting that alcohol is not served at Soukya.
