Location

Tucked into a quiet alcove in Canggu’s back streets, The Chillhouse’s convenient location is a huge drawcard. It has a feeling of being isolated while it’s actually in the heart of a vibrant neighbourhood. Close to the shops, beach and nearby café ‘scene’, it is ideally situated near Canggu’s trendy downtown yet is only an hour’s drive from the wild, rugged mountains. Situated half an hour from Seminyak, and an hour from the airport, it’s a great option for those who like their healthy holiday served with a side of close-at-hand fun.

Food Programme

Sourcing local fruit and veggies from farmers in the hilly heart of Bali where pesticides are scarce, The Chillhouse offers up healthy yet hearty food that caters to all dietary requirements: meat-lovers will dine side-by-side with vegans, and both will be equally satisfied with their options. The diverse menu offers up a wide selection of vegetarian and vegan cuisine, predominantly Balinese but with Western options available. Serving sizes are generous due to the retreat’s active fitness focus.

The retreat owners are European and this is reflected in the bountiful breakfast spread which includes coffee, tea, muesli, hard boiled eggs, toast, pancakes and healthy snacks-to-go. Breakfast and dinner are included in the retreat options: the evening meal adopts a sharing concept, either served as a buffet, BBQ or pre-ordered during the day and served all-together family style making meals an excellent social opportunity for solo travellers. Asian, Western and vegan palates are all catered to and MSG-free is a guarantee, so all flavoursome tastes come from nature.

Treatment Programme

The retreat programme at The Chillhouse revolves around three main categories: yoga, surfing and mountain biking. Unlike other retreats that have all-inclusive packages for a set amount of days, the schedule at The Chillhouse is more freeform, and well, chilled. Daily yoga classes (including Vinyasa, Hatha, Yin, and Kundalini styles), surf lessons (spanning 1 to 10 sessions for beginners and intermediate surfers), and mountain biking excursions to the Bali Bike Park (a jungle playground in the island’s hinterland) are on offer, but the guest decides on their personal daily schedule and can simply chill by the pool and eat healthy food if they like. The retreat offers free bicycle hire so you can explore the local neighbourhood – Bali has few footpaths, so make sure that you understand the Indonesian road rules before you hop on the road.

The yoga is taught by Yoga Alliance Accredited teachers, the surfing is taught by ISA (International Surfing Association) instructors and the bike tours are led by experienced mountain bike coaches. Holistic body and soul treatments are also on offer at the retreat including energy healing sessions, sports massage, reiki and craniosacral therapy. Additionally, a 60-minute guided meditation class is also run once a week. Those that need to get some work done (a usual retreat no-no!) can pop into The Chillhouse’s co-working space, making it perfect for busy young professionals and wellness-seeking digital nomads.
