Following the success of its London flagship, The Hari Hong Kong opened its doors in historic Wan Chai at the end of 2020. Since its debut, it has attracted the likes of newcomers looking for an urban staycation. Compare Retreats editor and business development executive Faye Bradley checked into the booutique luxury hotel for a one-night staycation.
Location
Perched between two vibrant districts in Hong Kong—Causeway Bay and Wan Chai—The Hari Hong Kong strategically pays tribute to its surrounding neighbourhoods. It incorporates the history of these regions, through its design elements and prospective collaborations (which include talks with local spas and businesses on connecting the community with hotel guests).

The stylish hotel is easily accessible by taxi or public transpiration and is within walking distance of many iconic landmarks and things to do including shopping centres, healthy restaurants, and wellness centres. Nearby recommendations include the Wan Chai Heritage Trail, tram excursions, a harbour cruise on the Star Ferry, and Lei Tung Avenue, to name a few.
Accommodation
There are four room types and three suites to choose from at The Hari Hong Kong. Designed by Tara Bernerd of Tara Bernerd & Partners (behind The Hari London), the hotel aims to bring British charm with Hong Kong history in its architecture and interiors.
I stayed in the Premier Corner Room, a 30-square-metre accommodation overlooking the harbour with panoramic views. The room featured a comfortable King Sized bed, an Arabescato marble bathroom with walk-in shower, and a cosy sofa which overlooks the views. The hotel implements a no-single-use plastic policy. The mini-bar was—to my surprise—empty, but the staff explained that this was also to reduce waste, and actually proved to be a more personalised, eco-friendly approach. Guests can request specific mini bar treats to stock up with for a more tailored experience. There are coffee and tea options available in the room.

Nutrition
There are two restaurants at The Hari Hong Kong. The Italian restaurant, Lucciola Restaurant & Bar, was rendered in a sleek design, serving Italian comfort favourites with a modern twist. Although the recommended dishes are more hearty and pasta-centric, there are plenty of lighter options for health-conscious diners.
Zoku Restaurant & Terrace was ultimately my favourite, a modern Japanese diner serving sharing dishes. Guests can opt for sashimi dishes, light appetisers, and nutritious soups, for a delectable, guilt-free experience.

Don’t Miss
Although The Hari Hong Kong does not have its own spa, the hotel is happy to recommend any nearby venues which offer holistic therapies—be sure to ask for some of the best spots. Start your mornings at the gym, which features all the basic equipment, plus a chic al-fresco area for morning wellness, like yoga and Pilates. The Hari Hong Kong exudes the five-star service of its sister property in upscale Belgravia, while showcasing Wan Chai in a new spotlight.
