Location

Bordered by picturesque mountains and set within 22 hectares of lush vegetation in the Java countryside, MesaStila’s serene surroundings add to its exotic appeal. Located two hours from Jogjakarta Airport and 45 minutes from the sacred Borobudur Temple (which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the retreat’s secluded location is the perfect antidote to urban stress.

Accommodation

Spread over a collection spacious villas, MesaStila has a number of accommodation options including a one-bedroom Plantation Villa (overlooking the property’s coffee plantation); 11 one-bedroom Arum Villas; eight two-bedroom Ambar Family Villas (which can accommodate up to three adults, or two adults and two children); and the two-bedroom Ambar Villa (a two-storey duplex suitable for four adults).

All villas are lavishly furnished with traditional Javanese décor and antiques, including four-poster beds and oversized day beds, and have panoramic views overlooking the jungles of Java.

The jewel in the crown at MesaStila is the Bella Vista Villa – an extensive compound that is home to three adjoining villas and two adjacent freestanding villas. Ideal for groups or multiple families, this ornate complex features a private swimming pool and can accommodate up to 10 guests. It also comes with a private butler, so guests can enjoy round-the-clock personal service.

Food Programme

MesaStila’s innovative dining menu incorporates traditional Indonesian flavours and a wide range of locally-grown, organic and sustainably-derived produce. Inspired by famous local recipes, wholesome meals are created by a team of Indonesian chefs who aspire to give guests ‘a sense of the real Java’. Healthy cooking techniques are the kitchen’s specialty and among other delicious creations, they serve up unique dishes such as steamed scrambled-eggs, baked snapper and Indonesian prawn crackers (kurupuk udang), cooked in heated volcanic sand.

There’s also an extensive vegan menu. Herbs play a big role in traditional Indonesian culture when it comes to health and healing, and Java is famous for its ‘Jamu’ – herbal medicine tonics used to prevent and cure a variety of physical, emotional and spiritual illnesses. Along with healthy meals, MesaStila offers guests a daily dose of Jamu with breakfast (they have five different healing varieties), made fresh by a local Jamu Master.

Treatment Programme

Themed under four categories – ‘Escapism’, ‘Cleansing’, ‘De-stress & Indulgence’, and ‘Fitness & Weight Management’ – MesaStila’s retreat programme covers all wellbeing bases. The daily activity schedule includes classes such as Yoga; Aqua-Fit; Bootcamp Workouts; Cycling Tours; Jungle Trekking; Jungle Gym Training; and ‘Pencak Silat’ (Javanese Martial Arts), led by the retreat’s master trainers.

MesaStila is also home to South East Asia’s only authentic Turkish Hammam, where an assortment of decadent cleansing rituals take place alongside the spa’s steam bathing facilities. The spa’s signature ingredient is freshly ground coffee beans, which are grown on-site in MesaStila’s own plantation, and well-known for their antioxidant healing properties.

Along with the wellness programmes, there is also a range of ‘Leisure Stays’ including a ‘Honeymoon Escape’; ‘Spa Break’; ‘Borobudur Getaway’; and ‘Harvest with Us’ package. MesaStila also offers a special bed & breakfast only option, where the wellness programmes, cultural activities and spa treatments can be added as supplementary experiences during the stay.
