Whether it’s for nutritional reasons, weight loss, or general health, fixing our bad habits is rarely something we enjoy: it is usually accompanied by a lot of restriction and deprivation, that invariably makes us feel like we’re missing out. This is where luxury wellness retreats answer the call, and SHA Wellness Clinic on the Spanish coast perhaps more than most. Offering five-star luxury at its stunning Meditteranean resort, the wellness programmes here take a 360-degree approach to holistic health in everything from weight loss to stopping smoking to fixing your sleeping pattern. Who knew curbing your worst habits could feel so luxurious…
Located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, close to the charming village of Altea, SHA Wellness Clinic is situated approximately 80 minutes from Valencia Airport and 40 minutes from Alicante International Airport, Spain. Positioned between the bay of Altea and beautiful cliffs of Sierra Helada natural park, the retreat’s picturesque location on Albir Beach enhances its European seaside allure.
SHA is a five-star resort and its stylish accommodation and cutting-edge facilities embrace high-end design. A collection of sophisticated suites are categorised into five room types including ‘Deluxe’ (70 square metres), ‘Superior’ (100 square metres), ‘Grand’ (120 square metres), ‘Presidential’ (175 square metres) and ‘Royal’ (320 square metres over 2 floors).
Sleek and modern, each minimalist space is decorated with chic white furnishings and luxury amenities. The resort also boasts a 6,000 square-metre wellness clinic equipped with luxurious treatment cabins, hydrotherapy circuit, medical facility, beauty salon, yoga studio, fitness area, high-tech gym, tennis court and putting green.
Quality nutrition plays a huge role in the SHA philosophy and the retreat’s restaurant ‘Shamadi’ serves healthy haute cuisine, with the goal of rebalancing the body and boosting its ability to heal itself.
There are three distinct diet programmes to choose from when you check in, which include: ‘Sha’ (introductory healthy diet for health newbies), ‘Biolight’ (intermediate diet for those with committed health goals), and ‘Kushi’ (strict diet designed for detoxification and weight loss).
Dishes on all menus favour international flavours and take the form of hearty soups, fresh fish, algae-rich salads and wholesome wholegrain pasta, while the restaurant’s liquid menu includes vegetable teas, natural juices and vitamin-infused health drinks.
Health lovers will love the wellness menu at SHA which incorporates an extensive mix of mind/body therapies, soul soothing spa treatments and results-driven health programmes.
There are 12 main packages which include: ‘Discovery’, ‘Essence’, ‘Fitness’, ‘Weight Control’, ‘Intensive Detox + Weight Loss’, ‘Life Reset’, ‘Anti Smoking’, ‘Sleep Recovery’, ‘Rejuvenation’, ‘Anti-Ageing’, and ‘Anti-Stress’. Overseen by a team of wellness experts and visiting masters, each programme applies the ‘SHA Method’ which addresses healthy nutrition, natural therapies, habit ‘re-education’, inner balance techniques (including meditation and mindfulness practices), healthy ageing, regenerative medicine, preventative medicine, genetics, aesthetic medicine (including dental), fitness and cognitive stimulation.
All of the programmes at SHA require a minimum stay of seven days (although they recommend 14-day stays for better results), except for the Discovery programme which runs for four days.
Additionally, SHA has its own wellness ‘academy’ which includes a daily programme of wellbeing talks, mind/body relaxation instruction, fitness guidance (led by the resort’s personal trainers), exercise support (including daily walks to the nearby lighthouse) and medical conferences with insights into the latest wellness trends and techniques. It’s definitely worth participating in the daily schedule of activities.
Expect to feel…healthier, happier and utterly transformed. This is ideal for those who are looking for a stringent and effective weight loss retreat but without sacrificing five-star comfort or service.
